Sunderban

Sunderban ! This is the name of World famous largest mangrove forest.Mangrove is a different type of forest which is grown at a place where fresh and salt water tide meet and mingle Sunderban is named from the huge-growing timber-tree "Sundori" as per hearsay . Its 10 Thousands square KM outstretched on both Bangladesh and India.Out of the total area Sunderban resides in 6 Thousands KM area of Bangladesh part; especially in Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira districts. The land of Sunderban has silted up with the alluvial tide of the Ganges and other rivers. soil is salted here that is apart from another parts of the country. 

The torrid and moist zone sunderban usually very hot from March to the midst of June and in the month of December to February the temperature turns the lowest. Numerous rivers and canals like a net spread over the total forest. You can easily move by boats from one place to another. Trees are grown and increased here naturally. Most of the seeds are sprouted on the trees ever and make new forests after falling down and floating on stream. Besides Sundori,There are also Golpata , Kewra , Gewa , Goran , Dhundal , Poshur and Other plants of 300 species.Fern is available in salty or less salty areas.Often Royal Bengal tigers hide themselves in to the fern bushes.It is called Tiger Fern( Acrosticum aureum).                                                                                                            

Sunderban is also an worthy source of various medicine plants.Golpata,Hogla,Kewra. Botul Vola,Gila lata, Nona jhaw, Kirpa, Kumba,Hetly etc. Extraordinary herbal plants are hugely grown here. 

The Royal Bengal tiger is famous throughout the World.It looks dreadfully strong with it's black and orange,red as pale brown stripes on its body.These tiger are only found in sunderban where the number of tigers is 440 as per the survey of 2004.Tigers are fond of having deer and wild pig.Sometimes people are attacked by the tigers while extracting timber or collecting Honey.Tigers become man-eaten if they can have taste of human flesh.Usually the Royal Bengal tiger is not man-eaten by nature, but man becomes its only target after man is hunt once.Even it raids surrounding villagers to hunt man. 

You will notice innumerable deer and monkey in Sunderban. Maya, Chitra deer are commonly found. However jackal, Hanumanas, Otters, Wild Cats, Wild Pigs and Hedgehogs are common here. Among birds Doves, Wood-Peckers, Finga, Sham shudor, Modon Tak ,Chashma, Parrots are seen all the year. About 50 species of guest birds dwell in Sunderban amongst 324 species of bird, local and guest.                                                                                                                                                                                

In Sunderban177 Rivers and canals there live about hundred types of aquatic beings. Crocodiles stroll in the rivers and canals as well as in the banks of the river to busk in the sun especially in Winter.Shushuk is also seen here besides crocodile Which is called Gangetic Dolphin.You can see Shark almost every where.balikata, Olive Ridley and green Turtles are dwellers here. Apart green toads,climbing trees toads and toads living in the hole.Another type of Amphibious beings of 10 species can easily traced here.with the Cobras,venomous snakes and Phythons. Various species of Shrimps, scorpions, Oysters and Snails are neighbors each others. 

Sunderban is widely famous for honey. The supplier of wax and honey is the bee. You will see no other homestead inside the forest except some villages near it. The professional wood-cutters and timber-extractors come to the forest temporarily an go away after their purpose. 

Unesco, in 19997 declared Sunderban the 552th world Heritage, 1400 square K.M area of 3 safe jungle of it is included into the world heritage. 

How & where to move? 

Excursion in Sunderban needs prior permission. Khulna or pongla port is supposed to be the launch pad to visit the main spots of the forest. From Dhaka,the capital, Khulna is 350 Km and Mongla is 370 KM away. You had better make a group to visit especially when you need peed boat, troller (engine boat), or Launch to travel there. Those who intend to stay there for 3 or 4 days should choose launch for transportation as it facilitates foods and dwelling better with a chance of enjoying the scenery of the forest sitting into cabin or on the deck. Green Bangladesh Tours along with Several tour companies has its regular package program for travel. 

You know - One has to pay different fees per day in visiting sunderaban. water vessels, Security guards, Ports and etc. require individual fees. That's why, tourist feel free laying the total duties to the tour operator. Generally the tourists target some popular spot to visit ; kotka, Dublar chor, kachi Khali, Hiron point are fascinating among them. 

In Horon point you can stay in the cottage of forest department with prior permission. The hired launches also stay here at night. You can enjoy mornings and afternoons here by the pleasure-trips in the local boats. It gives you a heavenly experience when you are walking along the river-banks surrounded by deer, Monkeys and various kinds of birds and sometimes they strike you with wonder. Dublar Chor(Island) is also nice spot for the fishermen's village in the sea-shore which is famous for dried fish. Tourist feel attraction for this specially why. It fascinates Hindu community especially for their Rash fair and Worship. A number of People of different religious gather here from home and abroad during the festival. 

Kotka is familiar as the finest spot to some tourist since it facilitates you to watch deer, Monkeys and other animals directly setting in tiger points as well as enjoy the wide-heaven Sea-shore. Well, while moving in the forest, you have discovered a Sea shore: You must be sure it's KotKa. Kotka is really a unique spot for the tourist coming where one must think- no beauty could have been met if I had not come here
